Hermóðr Interview

1.Can you tell us a little bit about the project for those that have never heard of you before?
Hermóðr is a swedish Black Metal one man-band formed in early 2012.
2.How would you describe your musical sound?
Ambient, atmospheric Black Metal. Slow and often very long songs.
Each of them a journey in itself.
3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the project explores with the music?
Mostly it is about Sweden in the old times. And how life was back them.
But also I focus on describing Swedish nature and some of it´s wildlife.
4. I know that the name of the project comes from Norse Mythology, can you tell us a little bit more about in your interests in this area?
I think it is important to remember and know your roots. And of course Asatru is a big part of Sweden´s past. But my lyrics are not so much focused on religious beliefs.
I kind of see my lyrics as history lessons. But they are very personal to me. And that is why I have chosen not to share them. I do not want people listening to my music with the lyrics in front of them following every word. That would destroy the experience.
5. Currently there is only 1 member in the project, how would you compare working solos to working with a full band?
Well the best thing when you work alone is to be able to control everything and get the songs exactly as you want them. The only thing I miss is having real drums. But the reason for that is that I currently do not own a set of drums. And I do not wish to get someone else to play the drums to my music.
6.Fallen Empire released your demo awhile back, what are your thoughts on the final product?
Fallen Empire did a great job on the cassette. I have nothing to complain about except the quality of the songs. I know I could have done better music.
The next release from Hermóðr will be much better.
7. On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of black metal?
Really good!
The cassette made the top 20 metal releases of 2012 on metalgigs.co.uk.
And I have gotten very positive feedback on the Hermóðr Facebook.
8.What is going on with the other musical project these days?
I have an ambient project called Fridfull. Wich I formed in 2007. I still make songs for Fridfull, but I have not released anything.
I did the guitar and vocals for Waste. A Black Metal band I formed in 2003.
But at the end of Waste I was the only member left. I tried to keep it going but decided to put it on ice in early 2013.
Myself and the drummer of Waste formed Vredesmod in 2012. I have written several songs but nothing have been recorded.
And I also have a DSBM project called Deadlife. Something may be released later this year but nothing is decided yet.
9.What direction do you see your music heading into on future releases?
I have no plans of changing anything. Hermóðr will sound the same way as it has.
10.What are some bands or musical styles that have influenced your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
Burzum is a big influence. But I do not think Hermóðr sound anything like Burzum. I like to think that I have my own sound.
I listen to so many different genres and bands that the list would be endless.
11.Outside of music what are some of your interests?
Music takes up almost all of my time. But myself and some close friends do some hiking in the summers. I live close to nature . I am as far from a big city-person you can get.
12.Any final words or thoughts before we wrap up this interview?
None that I can think of at the moment.
