Vanhelga are a band from Sweden that h as been featured before in this zine with the new album continuing their mixture of atmospheric black metal and depressive rock with the album being called "Sommar" and released by Art of Propaganda.
"Aftermath" which is the first song on the album opens up with some depressive black metal guitar riffs and drums before adding in some suicidal screams and a dark atmosphere coming from the synths and after a minute melodic leads start coming in and out as well as a brief use of fast playing and blast beats and towards the end there is a small amount of clean vocals being utilized for a few seconds.
"Another Side Of Me" starts up with some acoustic guitar playing along with some synths before adding in heavy guitar riffing and high pitched screams and clean singing as well as a mixture of clean and heavy parts and after awhile melodic guitar leads start coming in and out of the song.
"Sommar" which is also the title track opens up with some clean guitars before getting heavier along with some drums and melodic riffs as well as some lead that comes in and out and alternating between clean and heavy parts.
"Valkommen In" begins with evil laughter and clean guitars along with some drums and a few seconds alter spoken word parts start coming in which also leads to some clean singing before adding in heavy and melodic guitar riffs along with some leads and then the song alternates between clean and heavy parts.
"Vid Skymningens Grans' takes off with heavy guitar riffs and drums along with some depressive black metal vocals being added in before adding in clean pats, spoken words and melodic guitar riffs and then the song alternates between heavy and clean parts.
"Levande Bergvrad I Pffitvingad Fffinge" kicks off with heavy guitar riffs and drums along with some depressive screams a few seconds later as well as mixing in some melody and a small amount of clean singing which also leads to some clean playing and spoken words before adding in synths and guitar leads and as the song moves on acoustic guitars are added in for a second before the music gets heavy again and then alternating between distorted and clean parts.
"Doda Vita Drommar" which is also the last song on the album starts up with clean guitars and drums as well as some melody and synths which also lead up to some spoken word parts and after a minute heavy melodic guitar leads start coming in but the clean parts do stick around and towards the end you can hear some bass guitars.
Song lyrics are written in a mixture of Swedish and English and cover melancholy and misery themes, while the production has a very strong, powerful, heavy and dark sound to it.
In my opinion this is another great recording from Vanhelga and if you are a fan of atmospheric black metal and depressive rock, you should enjoy this album> RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Aftermath" "Valkommen In" and "Levande Bergvrad I Pffitvingad Fffinge". RECOMMENDED BUY.
