Funeral Baptism Interview

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?
The Band was formed by Damian, guitarist and main composer back in 2014 in Argentina. After moving to Bucharest Romania we started jamming and decided to restart this project. We initially experimented with different concepts and sounds but eventually settled to what you can hear on the "Gate" ep.

2.How would you describe your musical sound?
So far our sound is shaping ups quite traditional. Since we like many the old school back metal bands of the nineties , its no surprise that a large part of our sound will be inspired by such acts. We do however like to add a bit of influence from other genres and bands that we like which are unrelated to that musical genre. For the future we keep our options open, maybe the one ep or album will be more experimental while another will end being old school black metal worship.

3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the music?
Whatever dark things come to mind: religion and anti-religion, philosophy, literature, historical events, occultism.

4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Funeral Baptism'?
As far as I understood it just sounded right to Damian. I never honestly questioned its symbolism. It can conjure up some interesting mental pictures, now that you mentioned it.

5.The band members live in both Romania and Argentina, how does this workout in the recording process?
Right now we both live in Bucharest so the recording for our latest EP was pretty easy and straightforward. We managed to establish some strong ties with a producer with whom we keep in touch often. You could say there is a constant feedback between us, of which we are very pleased.

6.Currently the band is unsigned, are you looking for a label or have received any interest?
Actually we sought and got the attention of a local record label named Loud Rage Music. We were following their work and we plan to release our first full length album with their help. So far things are shaping up well, and we expect to release it later during the current year.

7.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of black metal?
The feedback was really pleasant, actually we were a little surprised of the such messages we received from black metal fans and general metal fans alike.

8.When can we expect a full length and also where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?
Later during this year (2017). The album will have a bit more variety, you can expect some more elaborate compositions but with the same raw black metal edge we enjoy.

9.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
For Funeral Baptism as a band I think Marduk, Mayhem and Inquisition are the greatest influence. Bathory and Endstile come very close too.
Nowdays I listen to pretty much whatever I feel like, from Doomsword to Enslaved, Omega, Tribulation to bay area thrashers, Forbidden.
Both me and Damian have a varied playlist as far as I can say.

10.Does Satanism or Occultism play any role in your music?
The Occult does play a role in what we do since I've been into this for some time. I still study religions, philosophies and magickal systems and practices and its really fascinating what the human mind can create.
When it comes to Satanism, it really depends what your personal definition of Satanism is. For a hard boiled fanatical Christian, everything that doesn't conform to religious dogma IS Satanism, some other of my self styled satanic acquaintances would have a very different opinion and most of the times they wouldn't agree to what is satanic and what isn't.
From an outsider's perspective, you could say that we have Satanic themes, maybe because we champion the development of the individual above all else. And sometimes in order to better yourself and to do what is right for yourself or for the ones you want to help, you have to embrace some of your demons in order to become stronger. As long as we do not step into the darkness we do not attain wisdom or true meaning to our existence.

11.What are some of your non musical interests?
History, philosophy, literature. Good food and drink to feed the body on our journey into oblivion.

12.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?
We thank you for checking us out and for giving us the opportunity of this interview and we promise to come back with some more dark music. Hails!
